Class Description

Russian 406 is the first of a three-semester online course designed to introduce you to the language and culture of one of the most influential and important regions of the world today, and help you develop functional proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Additionally, you can expect to start learning to navigate the Russian language realm of the Internet, which is truly an entirely other world replete with its own social media, search engines and shopping hotspots.

Course assignments will allow you to work independently a large portion of the time, but you can also expect to work with classmates on various communication activities, including video recording conversations in Russian. Students will meet as a class with the instructor one hour per week in a virtual classroom. 

Date & Location

Meets January 13 - April 28. This course is 100% online and includes live streaming video. Real-time participation is required during scheduled meeting time.

No textbook purchase is required for this course. All readings are available in Canvas.

Technical Requirements

Reliable internet connection (wired connection is recommended for synchronous interactions and video recordings). A computer with webcam, microphone and headphones.
