About Enrolling in These Courses
Eligibility and Requirements
- Enrollment in these courses is restricted to students approved for participation by the McCombs Master of Science Programs Office.
- Students on conditional admission status must earn a "B" or higher to satisfy admissions requirements for a master's of science program at the McCombs School of Business.
Deadlines
- The deadline to enroll is May 29, 2026 for students preparing to begin their MS program on July 1, 2026.
- The deadline to request a refund, minus a $150 administrative fee, is within the first 15 calendar days of enrollment. To request a refund, please email uex@austin.utexas.edu.
Courses
B A 386T: Statistics
This course is an intermediate-level introduction to statistics and data science. It teaches practical tools for data analysis in R and prepares students for a master’s level education in a field where data and statistics are used routinely. The emphasis will be on conveying the basic principles of probability, statistics, and data science, without digging much into formal statistical theory.
MIS 380P: Problem Solving and Programming
Develop programming skills for creating easy-to-maintain systems for business applications. Assignments will require students to examine object-oriented and structured methodologies with Python. Students will learn general principles of computer languages such as: branching (if/case structure), loops (while/for),functions, input/output (e.g. input from a keyboard or a stored file, output to the screen or a stored file). In addition, students develop an understanding of basic object-oriented programming principles (such as encapsulation and abstraction) and problem-solving skills to translate ‘English’ described business problems into programs written using the Python language.
MIS 380D: Database Management
Learn to model and design databases for efficient access and manipulation through a DBMS. Gain proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL for Oracle databases. The course concludes with an exploration of relational database limitations and emerging paradigms such as data warehousing, graph and object-oriented databases, and NoSQL systems like MongoDB.

- Click the Check Out button at the top right of this page.
- On the next page,
- Select Letter Grade as your grading method.
- If you are not currently enrolled as a student at UT Austin, you will see that a $10 library fee has been added to your total cost to register.
- Click “I have a UT EID-Continue Registering”.
- Check that you agree to the refund policy.
- Check that you agree to the policies on the University Extension website and that you have read the University's privacy statement.
- Click "Continue Registration."
- Review and update your biographical information as needed. Select “Academic Advisor” in response to the question, “How did you hear about UEX?” and click “Continue Registration”.
- Enter your Texas Success Initiative (TSI) information if needed.
- If needed, check that you understand the TSI policy.
- If needed, select the appropriate explanation regarding TSI compliance.
- Review your Payment Information (Total Amount) and enter your Payment Method. Click "Continue Registration."
- Review and edit (if necessary) your information.
- Check both of the certification statements under Confirmation.
- Click “Submit Registration."
- University Extension staff will review your registration and process your payment. A receipt will be emailed to you. Please note that this process may take 2-3 business days. Students will automatically be added to the Canvas course(s) the following morning.
