Following the successful completion of first-year Latin I (LAT 506 or equivalent), this online course will continue to build the foundations of Latin vocabulary, grammar and syntax, bringing students to an intermediary proficiency in the language. Students will work their way through Wheelock's Latin (7th edition), chapters 26-40; this work is accompanied with regular readings of texts relating to Roman history and historical myths, leading up to a reading of authentic Latin. Students will be graded according to completion of online assignments, participation, and midterm exams.

Students who achieve a C or higher in this course will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the Latin language to advance to second-year Latin I (LAT 311) or equivalent at other institutions.

Wheelock’s Latin, 7th edition.
Thirty-Eight Latin Stories Designed to Accompany Wheelock’s Latin, by Groton & May.
War with Hannibal: Authentic Latin Prose for the Beginning Student, ed. Brian Beyer.
Exam proctoring fees may apply and are not included in the course fee.

Date & Location:

This course has no live class meetings, and for the most part can be done on the student's own schedule. There are due dates for all assignments, and the exams must be taken on the assigned dates in a proctored, face-to-face setting.

Final exam: Tuesday, May 14
